Good value for money Wished we discovered this restaurant earlier - we’d have gone back for another visit! There is good heating in the room. Dessert was chocolate fondant and was really lovely, perfect texture in the middle with a beautifully balanced cherry compote and a really light and flavourful honey ice cream. The staff are always incredibly friendly, willing to engage in conversation and banter; ready to go the extra mile and actually provide a real table-waiting service; the landlord and landlady are also friendly and engaging, taking time to speak to the customers and have a conversation, willing to listen to feedback without becoming defensive, and again happy to go that extra mile. We had room 3 (double) which is on the front , overlooking the river and has a dual aspect, with a large window sill , handy for putting our books etc. Aromas of small concentrated berries, wide & generous, the wine is powerful & softens w/ the year. – Tracy, Fantastic food, lovely staff! Quite full in the mouth delivering punchy dark cherry fruit flavours, soft acidity & integrated tannins, making this an ideal early drinking style. Followed by a South African Malva pudding to share; delicious! Pea Risotto, Monkfish Scampi, Lamb, Enchilada & the Passion Fruit Sorbet were all outstanding and without fault. The Wagon & Horses is located on St. George’s Quay, which is slightly out of the way of the main Lancaster circuit, but this should not discourage you from visiting.This pub has been well decorated and looks very homely, warm and inviting all year round. Covid precautions are good, staff all wearing PPE. This place is one in a million and we can’t wait to go back…great atmosphere, lovely comfortable deco in a spot that oozes history. The palate is a soft sweet fruit driven style showing restrained use of oak.
