He was the eldest of two sons of Dmitriy Mikhailovich Kuznetsov, a military man and a big landowner in Kherson Governorate. Two years was a professor, head of the studio batalicheskih painting at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1920, during the Russian Civil War, as the White Army retreated, he and his family emigrated to Yugoslavia, eventually settling in Sarajevo, where he died in 1929. In the period from July to September 1942 he trained under a senior engineer of 239 fighter division 6th air force who met George Malenkov and praised the ability of Kuznetsov and subsequently sent his deputy to become a Designer at the Ufa Aviation Plant. So, there were shown the artworks of such painters, as Ilya Repin, Viktor Vasnetsov, Valentin Serov, Ivan Pokhitonov, Alexander Mann, Charles Cottet, Gaston La Touche, and others.In twelve years, Nikolai Kuznetsov left Odessa to join his children in Kingdom of Yugoslavia where he spent the rest of his life (now the territory of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Republic of Macedonia). The second Kuznetsov’s daughter, Lyudmila, was born ten years later.The first-born of Nikolai Kuznetsov, Maria Nikolaevna Kuznetsova, became a prominent opera singer. It was used in the Antonov An-22 aircraft, A-90 Orlyonok Ekranoplane and the Tupolev Tu-95 strategic bomber among others.
