Winton’s youth spent inhabiting the freedom of the coast, particularly by fishing and surfing, has continued throughout most of his life and is also outlined in ‘The Wait and the Flow’. Joy promotes Australian literature here and overseas. Beautifully written anecdotes, memories and essays from one of our most consistent writers. He has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize twice and amon. Winton's writing shines best when showing us his background through the eyes of his family but his passion for conservation and politics is less convincing. He was a man whose brave spirit had arrived.
